My map on (Cloud) technology

Personally, I am interested both in history and hiking in the mountains, and I love using available maps to better understand and orient myself.

I am often involved and asked about the technical aspects of Cloud Technologies, and I get this question both from IBM Colleagues and from Clients.  Since there are a lot of different aspects related to  Cloud and different stakeholders are interested in Cloud for different reasons, I've been using the following quadrant as a personal map to understand the contexts of the request.

This map drills down and identifies the appropriate Cloud concern, based on distinct dimensions:

1. Business vs Technology: with managers and executives more focused on the Business side, while architects, developers, and system administrators focus on the Technology side.
2. Functional vs Operational: here the split depends more on the goals and needs of the requestor.  E.g: a CIO optimizing a data center could be more interested in the operational side, compared to a Business manager that needs developing new features at an increased speed.

Obviously, this is not a one-size-fits-all approach, but I've found this approach useful to frame the discussion and go more in-depth into specific areas, being it either:

• The design of the services of an Industry-specific Business platform
• Optimizing the quality and speed of delivery with DevSecOps
• Modernizing existing applications
